ABOUT THE WORK
Exercises: Xhosa Textbook Fiction, 2015, is a loosely bound publication of four folded pamphlets, A6. The pamphlet fictions are comprised of non-normative Englishes, diagrammatic writing, codes, registers, poetic syntax, invented and imagined languages. Each exercise will approach the core textbook for learning Xhosa, a South African Language, as a second language learner at the University of Cape Town. The protagonist emerges through the series of independent yet related language learning and fictional translation exercises. Non-binary translation proposes listening / reading without ‘mastery’ in solidarity with decolonising education.
